Why is it that metro stations around here put their elevators in the scariest places? Honestly, 9 out of 10 elevators I have to use (unfortunately I bought an "American" stroller which is too big for me to carry down stairs by myself) are behind the metro station, down some dark alley, and never have lights.
Yes, this is leading into a great story of our "date" last night. Since Hami was born we don't really get out much, but last night I had to get out of the house, so we got on the metro and rode to Bethesda. Before we even left the house, Hami was screaming and had to be taken out of the stroller...great start! He loves the metro though, so once we got on he just sat there and looked around at all of the passengers.
Neither of us have been to the Bethesda metro...were we in for a great surprise! As we rounded the corner to leave we looked up and saw an escalator, not just any escalator, but the longest escalator in the world!
Yes, we couldn't even see the top when we walked up to it! The best part of our journey on this escalator (it took about 2 minutes according to Dallin) was that a girl was riding the escalator down and was wearing one of those peasant skirts (this is why my mom told me never to wear one) and her skirt got caught in the base of the escalator and pulled her straight down. There was a huge thud and all of these people had to jump over her to get off. The station man came running over and yelled at everyone to, "Hold On!" because he was turning off the escalator (that's where our problems came from, you will see later). They eventually got her out unscathed, just a small tear in her skirt. Wow, that was a good escalator ride.
We walked around for a while and found this cute little burger place. Good burgers with the best french fries. It was a great meal until I thought I saw a leaf blowing across the ground (we ate outside). Strangely enough though, it wasn't windy...then I saw that leaf run up the wall. It was a mouse! I HATE mice. They are my biggest fear and since living here we have seen two mice while eating. The first mouse was in Cheesecake Factory under the table next to us and now this one. I said to Dallin that I saw a mouse and he just brushed it off, that is until he saw the mouse under the stroller. That's when he jumped up and said it was time to go! Gross...
When we got back to the metro stop, the escalator was still turned off and I was not about to carry the stroller down the escalator, so we went on the never ending hunt for the elevator. After walking about two blocks, down an alley, behind a hotel, etc we finally found it. Dallin started saying how scary it was and as I was adding my two bits he grabbed my hand. Even though he didn't say anything I knew that something was wrong. Immediately I started scanning the area and this man came out from behind the newspaper boxes. My heart dropped. Dallin and I surrounded Hami and were just standing there because we didn't know what to do. Luckily the man was just sleeping behind those boxes and wanted nothing to do with us but wow...they NEED lights by metro elevators!
I know, this is a long post and somewhat boring, but let me tell you...it was a crazy night! If only all of you could experience the fun adventures we are having here!

Sounds a bit more exciting than you might want...
Man you guys are really getting out and having fun, good for you!
Your Philly trip sounded awesome (except for that little mishap with the alarm clock..) I loved all the pictures of Hami posing with the founding fathers, he was really loving it by the end! That picture from the Office was great, at first I thought maybe you really ran into Pam and Phyllis.
I can't belive that you saw a mouse at the Cheesecake Factory! That's disgusting! It would totally spoil my appetite too.
Good luck with the metro, I hear you about the hard to find elevators, come on people, we all can't ride the never ending escalator!
