More Adventures in DC!

We had such a fun week last week! It started out with us going to the National Archives to see the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. There was a huge line wrapping around the outside of the building, so we decided to try again another day (Hami is a ticking time bomb, you never know when he is going to explode).

Fortunately, across the street from the Archives, at the Navy Memorial, they were having Navy Day. There were exhibits for kids, performers, and all sorts of humvees, boats and naval gear for everyone to look at.

Dallin dressed Hami in his "Born in the USA" oufit (thanks Dave and Jess!) so he looked pretty patriotic in his outfit. In fact, a photographer from the Navy Memorial came and asked if he could take a picture of Hami for the memorial!

We decided to walk down to the National Air and Space Museum and on our way we found this park. It's the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Park (everything here starts with 'National'). I really liked this sculpture, it's an eraser!

We did all of those fun things on Saturday and since Columbus Day was on Monday, Dallin had it off and we went to the Zoo. Contrary to popular belief there is an animal in that picture (and no it's not me). That lump in the water is an hippo. They are my favorite animals! They do some pretty interesting territorial things...I'll have to tell you about that later!

Here's Dallin in front of the Gibbons. Dallin loves monkeys!

When I was little I loved getting stuffed animals, so we had to go to the gift shop and buy Hami a little stuffed monkey. I let Dallin pick it out because he loves monkeys. It took him literally 20 minutes to find a good one! We named him Bobaloo. I think Hami might be getting nightmares from Bobaloo, can you imagine why?

We claimed that we went to the zoo for Hami, but we really went for Dallin and me. Hami slept most of the way! Isn't he just so cute?

Today we went downtown to go sightseeing again. I thought that I would throw in another picture of Von Steuben for Dad.

Dallin found out that they were having tours of the White House gardens for the public today, so we thought we might go check it out.
We were so close we could basically reach out and touch it! I am sure if we tried there would have been twenty (or more) SS guys all around us!

Dallin is standing in front of the Oval Office here. I thought it was really interesting to see because President Bush has been giving a lot of speeches from this garden lately.
Dallin and I are always looking for weird trivia facts and here is proof of one...did you know that there is a tennis court on the front lawn of the White House? Here ya go...now you know!
We came home from the tour and Dallin was in dire need of getting a haircut. He hasn't gotten one since we moved out here and it has been two months! Well, we went to the mall to get his haircut and look at what happened! Does this look like a straight line to anyone? I get to cut it tomorrow and straighten it out! Won't that be exciting!

Yikes on the haircut! I can't believe they let you leave with it like that. Great pics of the White House! We are excited to come and see you guys!
